How to Turn Off Comments On Facebook Post (2022)

The ability to comment on other people’s posts and get comments on your own posts are an important part of Facebook. Commenting on each other’s posts helps us share feedback and useful information. However, sometimes situations arise where you might want to disable comments on your Facebook posts.

It usually happens when you share your opinions about a controversial issue. It might seem a good idea to turn off comments on your posts when you see mostly abusive and unproductive comments. Can You Turn Off Comments on Facebook? 

You cannot turn off comments for your personal posts. You can only turn off comments for group posts if you are an admin or moderator of the group. Even though you cannot completely disable comments on your personal posts, you can control who comments on them. You can decide who can comment on your personal posts by choosing either Public, Friends of Friends, or Friends options.

Choosing the Public option will allow all Facebook users to comment on your posts. Opting for Friends of Friends means only your friends and users who are friends with your friends can comment on your posts. Lastly, choosing the Friends option will only allow your friends to comment on your posts.

Manage Comments on All Personal Facebook Posts at Once

Step1: Launch the Facebook app on your device and tap the three-lined menu in the top-right of the app screen.

Step2: Select the Settings and Privacy option, then tap Settings.

Step3: Tap the Followers and public content option under the Audience and visibility section.

Step4: You will see three options under the Public Post Comments section, Public, Friends of Friends, and Friends. You can choose any of these to decide who can comment on your public posts.

Manage Comments on Specific Personal Facebook Posts

Step1: Launch the Facebook app on your device and locate the post for which you want to control the comments.

Step2: Tap the three little dots at the top-right of the post.

Step3: Select “Who Can Comment on Your Post” from the menu.

Step4: Choose one of the three options, Public, Friends, or Profiles and Pages You Mention to determine who can post on the selected post. Choosing the “Profile and pages You Mention” option will allow only those profiles and pages to comment on the post whom you have mentioned in your post.

Turn Off Comments on Facebook Group Posts

Unlike your personal Facebook posts, you can turn off comments entirely on group posts. But you need to be either an admin or moderator of the Facebook group to be able to do that. The below guide will show you how to turn off comments on Facebook group posts.

Step1: Launch Facebook and locate the group post for which you want to turn off comments. Remember that you can only turn off the comments for a group post if you are an admin or moderator of that group.

Step2: Tap the three dots at the top-right of the group post.

Step3: Select the Turn Off Commenting option from the menu, and you are done. Facebook will immediately disable the comments for that group post. No user can comment on the post until you change the comment settings again.

It is important to note that all the comments that may have been posted on the post will not disappear automatically. You will have to delete the posted comments manually if you want to get rid of them.
